Hey people! I know you're probably expecting more updates to either of my stories, but I have to get this off my chest since it's been plaguing me for a long while now before I continue posting here, totally disregard this if you just want to read the stories already posted.
Alright... I've been reading fanfictions since I got my first computer in '99 when I was just an innocent eleven-year-old. One thing I've noticed in the various different fandoms I've dabbled in over the years that so-called 'dark' fics usually cause people to become very apprehensive. If you're not familiar with 'fanfiction lingo' a 'dark' fic is usually a story that involves anything from BDSM, murder, rape, abuse, self harm, etc . I've seen many a great writer abandon their stories due to people who hound them for writing about taboo subjects and that really pisses me off. Hell, it's the reason this blog exists, because where one story was originally hosted but it had to find a new home since some found it to be 'disturbing' (lol!). So much for freedom of expression, huh?
Why are so many people adverse to such subject matters when in print, but they gladly sit in front of the idiot box (the television) or shell out ridiculous amounts of their money to go see the latest blood bath at the theater? Or they turn on the evening news to hear about innocent children having bombs dropped on them as they sleep, yet they don't call the news station and complain about how violent and offensive it is to hear about such things. It seems as if stories that tackle real life situations are automatically shunned in favor of fluffy 'riding off into the sunset' trite stories.
Perhaps it's because these people want to escape from reality that they find it disturbing to read about someone getting abused, who knows (or cares). Humans murder, abuse, rape and steal; we are not good creatures as a whole and I guess that people are disturbed when others decide to shine a light on that aspect of our species, since it's usually covered by the thin cellophane called 'civility'. 'Dark fics' are simply just an introspective look into the dark side of the human psyche that many refuse to acknowledge.
All I want to get across to current and future readers is that none, repeat, none of my stories are going to be vanilla romance novels, only dark, filthy, grimy, and bloody stories will be posted here. I just cannot get my warped little mind to spew out a sappy love story, emotions like dissapointment and betrayal are easier for me to potray than love.
So to re-cap in case it hasn't sunk in yet: There will be no true 'romance' stories, and if you do see the word 'romance' on this website it's my idea of romance not the traditional sense of the word and if you don't like any of the subject matter here please do us all a favor and just click the back button.
Well, I'm done rambling! :P
*And now back to your regularly scheduled programming*
Don't worry about it too much. Explaining yourself feeds new discussion and debate. Many fanfic writers keep their disclaimer as short as possible: ‘don’t like, don’t read’. From a psychological point of view, some actions from characters are more likely than others, but hey, it’s fiction, and it’s your story and your blog. Things happen the way you want them to be. Personal limits vary; what I find disturbing may be just kinky in someone else’s eyes.
ReplyDeleteI'm personally excited to see how far you're going to push Meister. Hell, you haven't even really touched bloodbplay, knifeplay, breathplay or electricalplay. Pretty vanilla except for the whippings. Which haven't been for a while. I'd like if you could up the psychological degradation. Meister seems like he'd be great at it.
ReplyDeleteOh how I revel in my deviations.
^ uhm, don't forget waterplay/ water-torture? bound, gagged, and stimulated with water shooting from a hose???
ReplyDeleteAwww but whips and chains excite me oh and so do shackles *evil grin*
