Also, I know the title is lame, but hey I was in highschool and I currently can't think of a better one, so its just gonna have to stick unless someone can come up with something better. :P Oh, as always constructive criticism is always welcome.

Paring(s): Till/Richard/Christoph
Rating: 18+ (?)
Genre: Fantasy,Dark(?),Short Story
Summary: Two orphan teens on the brink of starvation are forced to leave the current village they reside in after one of them is caught stealing. After getting lost in the dense forest they stumble upon a pristine home with delicious aromas wafting through the air, the boys decide to enter the home and fill their aching bellies. What will happen when the two boys are discovered by the inhabitant of the home? This is a twist on one of my favorite fairy tales. [A Three-Shot Story]
[Prologue]
Richard awoke to the first rays of dawn hitting him in the eye through the thatched roof of the barn. Sitting up from his bed of hay he stretched and made to stand up, but crouched back down when he heard the wooden door creak open. “Richard?” A voice called quietly. Standing up again Richard walked over to the younger male. “Where the hell have you been, Christoph?” Richard whispered harshly.
Producing a medium sized bundle Christoph said “I was out trying to get us some food and I was successful, see? They almost caught me, but I was too quick for the old hag and her husband.” Christoph then unwrapped the bundle to reveal a freshly baked loaf of bread. Sighing Richard replied “I know we haven’t eaten in days, but you can’t keep stealing from other people. Do you want to go back to the orphanage or worse to prison? We’ve been chased out of too many villages to count and frankly I’m tired of running.” Rolling his eyes, Christoph said “Alright, alright, spare me the soliloquy. I won’t steal anymore.” Richard narrowed his eyes in disbelief. “That’s what you said in the last town when you got us chased out like we were wild dogs.”
Suddenly the barking of dogs could be heard in the distance signaling the impending arrival of the farmer that owned the barn. The two boys stiffened. “Shit!” Richard exclaimed. “Come Christoph, we’ve got to get out of here now!” Grabbing Christoph by his arm firmly Richard pulled him toward the exit on the opposite side of the barn. Upon exiting they were spotted by the farmer who was still a good distance away. “Run!” Richard shouted. The two youths took off down the pathway as the winded farmer shouted expletives at their retreating forms.
Once they were a good distance away they stopped to catch their breath, as Richard bent over gasping, Christoph began to laugh. “That was exhilarating! Don’t you think so Richard?” Christoph said between guffaws. Looking up at Christoph and narrowing his eyes once more, Richard replied dryly “Hardly.” Rolling his eyes heavenward, Christoph retorted “You’re no fun.” Before Richard could come up with a reply, Christoph quickly tore the fresh loaf of bread in two and shoved into the other males face. Shaking his head at Christoph’s impish nature, he gladly took the bread eager to quell the ache in his stomach. Walking leisurely down the dirt pathway away from town the two ate their rations in companionable silence, taking in the beauty of the flora and fauna around them.
Stuffing the remainder of the bread into his pocket wanting to save it for later, Richard broke the silence “We can’t keep going on like this, winter will be here in a matter of months. I don’t know if I can make it through another one, we barely survived last year.” Christoph snorted derisively. “Yeah, I remember we only survived because of my prowess to acquire food.” He gloated. Sighing exasperatedly, Richard agreed “Yes, we survived because you stole from others, but that is my point we can’t keep on like this. We need to find jobs, perhaps an apprenticeship of some sort.” Laughing out right at Richard’s idea, Christoph replied. “You really think that someone is gonna take us in as apprentices? Yeah right!”
“Well, what great ideas do you have since you’re so damn smart?” Richard said quickly becoming flustered. Christoph merely shrugged his shoulders as they continued walking. “It figures.” Richard said to himself. Suddenly Richard stopped walking, almost causing Christoph to run into him. “What the hell?! Why’d you stop?” Christoph questioned. Looking ahead at the dense, dark forest; Richard replied “I don’t think we should go any further.” Christoph frowned at the way Richard was acting, having never seen him afraid of anything. “Why not? It’s the only way to the next town.”
Shaking his head in the negative, Richard replied “We shouldn’t continue because I’ve heard that this forest is enchanted.” Bursting into a fit of giggles, Christoph said “Really? Enchanted?! I thought you were too old to believe in such nonsense. ”
Whipping around to face the younger male, Richard retorted “Yes, I said enchanted and no, this isn’t the only way out of the town. I supposed your pig-headed self did not notice the lack of wagon tracks on the path, meaning no one has traveled on this path in months, maybe even years. I heard people speaking in whispers when we first arrived that this particular forest is a home to a whole host of vile creatures and a wickedly powerful sorcerer who gets the beasts of the forest to do his bidding. It is also rumored that the trees in this forest are also under the sorcerer’s control. I thought it was ridiculous at first but now that I've seen the forest for myself I am not too sure if I want to take the chance of the rumors being true”
“Well if you’re so damn scared of a spooky forest, then why don’t we leave the other way since apparently there’s another path we can take.” Christoph said matter-of-factly with his arms crossed over his chest. With his expression bland and his mouth a grim line on his face he replied sardonically “Well you ruined our ability to leave the other way since we’d have to go back through the town. You know the town where you stole and where we were chased out of a barn?”
“Then we have no choice but to go through the forest, right?” Christoph asked. “Right.” Richard intoned morosely. “Then let us be off!” Exclaimed Christoph as he grabbed on to Richard’s hand and led him up the path. Throwing his arm around the older male’s shoulder, Christoph intoned bravely “Don’t worry Richard; I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise.” Snorting to himself, Richard nodded minutely and continued forward.
Once at the entrance of the forest, Richard paused trying to peer into the thick forest to see if he could spot anything unsavory. Not seeing the fiends that were supposed to reside in the forest, Richard continued forth with a sigh and a whispered prayer that they may make it through the wilderness. As they silently walked through the forest, both were alert for any animals or devils that may spring upon them. Richard noticed that the sun’s warm rays barely penetrated the thick roof of the tree tops, making it a bit cooler and darker then when they were out in the sunny open fields.
A branch snapped and the two boys jumped and then froze, expecting some beast to appear gnashing its teeth at them any second. When they realized it was just a doe and her calf, the both let out relieved breaths. Not failing to notice that Christoph too had been scared, Richard felt it was the perfect opportunity to call him on it. “I thought you weren’t scared of the forest?” Richard said snidely. Shrugging his shoulders, Christoph replied nonchalantly “I never said I wasn’t afraid of the forest, just that an enchanted forest is ridiculous.”
Raising a dark brow, Richard replied “Uh-huh. Sure, whatever you say. Let’s keep going so we can get out of here as fast as possible.” Resuming their quiet trek through the woods, their stomachs began to growl in protest. Looking up at the sky, or rather, where the sky would be if it weren’t blocked by the snarl of trees that reached skyward; Richard tried his best to determine the time, finally figuring that it was well past noon. Walking a bit further, they came upon a slight clearing with two downed logs perfect for them to sit upon. “Let’s rest here for a bit, alright?” Richard said. “Are you sure? Don’t you want to keep going so we can get out of here as soon as possible?” Christoph questioned.
“No, we’ve made pretty good time and we haven’t encountered anything, so I think we’ll be fine. Also I have some bread still left so we can have lunch.” Richard explained. “Awesome! I’m glad you have more willpower than I, I ate all of my bread hours ago.” Christoph exclaimed. Giving Christoph another bland look, Richard replied as he sat down “Yeah, if it weren’t for my will power we’d be nothing, but worm food since you can’t save anything even if your life depended on it.” Sitting down on the log opposite of Richard, Christoph sheepishly laughed as he ran his fingers through his wavy shoulder length hair.
Tearing the last of the bread in half Richard gave a piece to Christoph. As the two ate they talked about various things, the parents they missed, the lives they would’ve had, and the dreams they had for the future. After the last of the bread was consumed the two males suddenly felt very drowsy, so drowsy that the two slid off of their seats into the soft mossy ground, falling asleep instantly.
It seemed that Richard was correct about the forest; it was indeed enchanted, for floating above their slumbering bodies hovered a multitude of pixies laughing away at what they had done to the human children. The boys slept for hours, with many of the non-malevolent inhabitants of forest the watching over their prone forms as they dreamt of better lives.
To be continued...Author's Comment: See? That wasn't too bad was it? *Dodges rotten fruit* Damn! Is that how you're gonna treat your Misstress after all the slashy goodness she's provided you with? *Dodges more fruit* I guess so *sniffle* My reader's are soo hard to please! *lol* (^_^)
Well I liked it. (I'm not sure where part 2 went? I'm guessing you pulled it?)
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, when I was reading Hansel and Gretel as a kid I always wondered 'If the old bitch is so magical, why doesn't she just get out of the oven and kick their arses!'
I'm glad you posted it, I'm glad you're owning it (God knows I'LL never be brave enough to post any of the angsty teenage ramblings I ever wrote!) and I thought it was better than a huge chunks of the fan fics I've read. Lets be honest, how many 'I met Till at a party and went on tour with them and we lived happily ever after' stories are there? Hunger was a much better read
I agree.
ReplyDeleteGreat fics, excellent slash and pwp's well worth waiting for. Good stuff.
